Blepharoplasty / Eyelid Surgery

Over time, our eyelids tend to sag, which can add years to our appearance by giving off an impression of fatigue, dullness, and wear. The sagging can even impair vision, and fat accumulation can add puffiness to the surrounding area. A blepharoplasty, more commonly known as eyelid surgery, corrects all of this.

Tightening the skin around the eyes and reducing any puffiness can literally wake up your expression, allowing people to see the true you. A blepharoplasty will give you a more alert, interested appearance, eliminating the drooping skin that wrongly conveys exhaustion and disinterest.

The removal of particularly sagging skin may also allow for a greater range of vision.

What Does a Blepharoplasty Involve?

The blepharoplasty procedure can involve the upper eyelid alone, the lower eyelid alone, or both eyelids together. Dr. Breazeale will discuss the benefits of each option with you to determine what the best course of action will be based on your individual physiology and needs.

Small incisions in the upper eyelid allow for access to all of the problem areas in that part of the face. Dr. Breazeale will make the necessary adjustments through this, including:

  • tightening muscle

  • tightening tissue

  • removing excess skin

  • repositioning fatty deposits

The incisions are incorporated into existing folds, which naturally hide any scarring after the procedure.

Incisions for lower eyelid blepharoplasty can be made just under the lashes or even on the inside of the lid. Both of these areas hide scars well, too. These incisions similarly allow for the removal of excess tissue and skin and the repositioning or removal of any fatty deposits, if necessary.

Recovery measures and times will vary based on the extent of the surgery, but you should expect to have some downtime while swelling and bruises fade. You should also wear sunglasses when outdoors while you’re healing after your blepharoplasty surgery.
